Offline issues ruin this app. by JP

I really like this app and enjoy being able to read The Economist on my Surface Pro. The one big problem is that, even when I have downloaded an issue prior to being without a Wi-Fi connection, I am not able to access the content in the app. I get error messages instead. And now I'm also having issues with downloading issues in the first place.

    Useless by Steve

Considering how much I'm paying for the subscription to the economist I don't think it's unreasonable to expect an app that actually works. This app doesn't download the latest version and now I have to go out to their website to read it - not what I paid for!

offline issues mar great app by Sol

Content is great. App is decent. There's a dealbraker recurring issue: you can download an issue for "offline reading " and then when you're on a plane or train with no internet connection, the issue fails to load because there's no internet connection and then the app resets.

Issues frequently don't download completely. by JT

This application desperately needs an update to resolve problems downloading issues from their servers. Frequently cannot finish entire issues, or even subsections. On the same network, an iPhone version has no issues. Playback of audio is suspended when screen times out; not useable unless battery life is of no concern to you. Additionally, it doesn't have a mechanism to play all, or even have the next section automatically queue up. (have to go through the menu to choose audio again.) Also, I don't understand how the ability to draw in a 'notebook' was prioritized over network connectivity or audio edition support. What is the point of the drawing feature?!? Still gets a star for content quality.... when you can get it on your device. *update- after being unable to reliably download the last three editions, it lost its star for content as I can't get said content through this app.

Decent, but takes forever to refresh to new issue by Alex

It seems like it takes forever to load the new issue when you open the app and there is no obvious button in place to 'refresh' the issue. If this could be clearer or fixed then 5 stars all the way.

Offline bug is a serious drawback by Keegan

I love this magazine. I wish I could say the same about the app. The biggest and most obvious problem is the lack of offline capability, which I'm certain is a bug of some sort. I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to access any magazine that I've downloaded to my computer; and, indeed, I can, until the app resets, at which point it won't let me read those anymore. This has been a problem for a while and I can't imagine takes this long to fix. The other problem is more minor and subtle, but has to do with the interface itself. When scrolling through and selecting articles, I often have to tap my finger EXACTLY in place in order to actually open an article--otherwise it just scrolls and jiggles the menu, which is annoying. The Economist is a good journal. It deserves a better viewer than this.
